DESIGN TO IMPROVE LIFE
Widgets & Stone is seeking to develop a program for identifying needs in our Chattanooga community and ways that design can be utilized to meet those needs. Beginning in fall of 2006, the studio would like to facilitate and direct a team of senior college students in a two semester project to research community and the design and execute a plan to attempt to meet those needs.
Any senior level students can apply to the program, but at least 3 senior level design students will be needed in the group. Widgets & Stone will seek to obtain a grant for funds to enable execution and production of the project, and will provide leadership and creative direction for the team.
The project will take place over the fall semester of 2006 (beginning Sept 1) and spring semester of 2007 (ending April 30). The first semester will consist of research and analysis as to what the various needs are in the community. At the end of the semester students will propose a plan to execute a design to accomplish a specific goal. In the spring the students will execute the design and document its success or failure.
Any interested students should apply by writing a short letter entitled "Why I believe design can improve life" and send it with contact info and any other pertinent information to: info@widgetsandstone.com or to 1271b market st, chattanooga, tn 37402
