GOOD FOOD IS GOOD DESIGN
Since cooking (and eating) is a creative outlet for me, I have no trouble relating it to the design process. I thought the blog would be a perfect way for me to share my favorite Chattanooga eats and eateries. Please add if you have any favorites of your own.
BREAKFAST:
I love to go Italian style with a Chocolate Croissant or Apple Danish and a Double Espresso from Chattz Coffee (on Market)
The Longhorn (North Main St) provides a hearty (albeit unhealthy) American helping of fried eggs, bacon or sausage and biscuits and gravy. I think you can even smoke too if you want.
If you want variety, the Foundry at the Chattanoogan (Broad St) has a lavish buffet. Great for Sunday mornings - or afternoons.
LUNCH:
Caffeine on MLK makes many a delicious sandwich - my favorites being:
The Caprese (pesto, tomato and mozerella) and Turkey Number 3 with Avacado and Brie...
A Sushi lunch or a Lunch Box from Hiroshi's on Main - with edemame of course!
Fish Tacos from the Blue Plate on Chestnut St.
Mexico City Tacos (Chorizo + corn tortillas) and the Guacamole (they make it fresh on order, and won't serve it if the avacadoes aren't fresh!) from La Alteña on Main
A Gyro Platter from Mykonos Grill on 8th St.
The Muffaletta or the Elana Ruz (smoked turkey, cream cheese and strawberry jam) from River St. Deli on Frazier
The Shrimp and Grits or Crawfish/Ham Hash (with hollandaise over crispy polenta) from Southside Grill on 14th St.
DINNER:
The black mushroom and ginger chicken (F4) from Sawasdee (Thai) on St Elmo Ave
The Duck from Sweet Basil (Thai) on Brainerd Ave
The Rock Shrimp appetizer and the grilled Salmon dinner with vegetable orzo from J. Alexander's at Hamilton Place (I know, a chain, sorry)
The Pompano (a rich buttery fish) from Easy Seafood (on Broad St)
The Slash-n-Burn Catfish from Canyon Grill on Lookout Mtn - near Cloudland Canyon (hence the name)
The Marinated Beet and Goat Cheese first course from the Meeting Place (on Market)
The Keener Farm's Pork Sampling from St John's Restaurant (on Market)
Probably ANYTHING from Table Two (formerly Bella Ballagio) opening soon where The Bay used to be...
DESSERT:
Coffee Toffee, Chocolate Chocolate Chip Ice Creams and Mango Sorbet from Clumpies Ice Cream Co. on Frazier Ave.
The Mango Sweet Rice at Sawsdee (St Elmo Ave)
The Peach Cobbler (offered during the peach season only) at Easy Seafood
WILDCARDS:
A Hickory Burger with Bacon or the Shrimp and Grits at Big River Grill (Broad St)
A pizza Margherita (mozzerella, tomato and basil) or good old Italian Sausage pizza from Lupi's Pizza (on Broad St)
A Chicken Salad Melt from the Lookout Mountain Café (Lula Lake Rd)
(Depending on who makes it) Bucatini al'Amatriciana from Pastaria (on Signal Mtn)
Farro con Funghi di Bosco made by Julian Kaufman (owner of Fitness Together and local Italian cuisine afficionado)
AND if you ask real nice... I personally make a good risotto (saffron, pesto, porcini, etc); a great open face flank steak, avacado and roasted pepper sandwich; a roasted pork loin with rosemary, garlic and peaches; and a lamb with prosciutto lemon sauce over roasted garlic potatoes... among other things ; )
